  • Yeah, it's fun to laugh about it, but the reality is that any Bin Laden staff member, particularly household staff, would be around Bin Laden and his cadre constantly and undoubtedly had a lot of very valuable information to be gotten.

  • It always amuses me to see people trying to defend what is in the Qur'an by pointing to Bible extracts from the Old Testament. The difference between the Bible and the Qur'an is quite simple. Western societies don't live by and act on teachings from the 1st Century.

  • The U.S. and Allies put thousands of boots on the ground IN Japan after the surrender. That may not constitute "invasion" in your terms, because not many shots were fired (although there were skirmishes), but it does in mine.

  • Well, I hate to be the hair-splitter here, but we did "invade" Japan. The Japanese Government tendered its unconditional surrender to the U.S. and Allied armed forces in 1945. The U.S.

  • No. Saddam was no prize. BUT... relatively speaking, the Iraqis were 100 fold better off then than they are today, even with the hard core policies and political persecution exacted on some of the population*.

  • I feel very, very sorry for these people, no question. The Iraqis didn't ask for this. They were actually better off with Saddam, most of them. They had a very modern culture, women had great freedom, the educational and health care systems were good.
